This register was compiled by the Gold Commissioner in charge of the Northern Gold District, from the returns sent to him by mining registrars issuing miners' rights and business licences in the various regions of the district under his supervision. Details of date and number of miners' rights (British or Alien) and business licences issued by such mining registrar as well as the amount of money received are recorded.

There is an index arranged by location of mining registrars.
