These are copies of letters sent by the Gold Commissioner in charge of the Northern Gold District to various government officials, including the Under Secretary for Lands and Public Works, transmitting details of applications for auriferous tracts, various returns and reports on the gold fields of the Northern Gold District and requesting the survey of auriferous tracts; to the Under Secretary for Finance and Trade forwarding fees received and giving notice of the departure of the gold escort; to the Auditor General furnishing him with details of miners' rights and business licences issued, as well as attested accounts.

Letters to private individuals are mainly concerned with the notification of required labour conditions, approvals of applications to lease, fees and rents due and various other matters relating to the general organisation of the gold fields in the Northern Gold District.
