Explanatory note
Under the Electoral Act of 1858 (Act 22 Vic. No.20) Courts of Revision were held for the purpose of revising the electoral lists. It was the responsibility of the Clerk of Petty Sessions to arrange for the lists to be collected. Every year the Justices in Petty Sessions would meet for the revision of the lists. Once the lists were revised the Clerk of Petty Sessions would deliver them to the Returning Officer of the Electoral District who would create a general alphabetical Roll of the Electors for the whole Electoral District.
