This series contains copies of letters to the Sheriff (to 1833), Ministers of Religion, Police Magistrates, Superintendent of the Hulk, Superintendent of Woolloomooloo Stockade, Colonial Architect, Principal Superintendent of Convicts, Colonial Secretary, the Principal Gaoler and other public officers.

From 1841 most of the letters are signed by the Visiting Magistrate. From 1852, many of the letters are signed by the Sheriff. After 1873, letters are in summary form and are addressed to Inspector of Prisons, later, Inspector General of Prisons
