Full description
The ship "Phoenix", of 589 tons, was damaged on 6 August 1824, when she struck the Sow and Pigs rocks in Sydney Harbour. She was condemned by the Vice-Admiralty Court to be broken up and her stores etc. to be sold, but was bought by the government for £1000, and fitted up in May 1825 as a prison hulk. It ceased to be used as a prison in 1838.
This record shows entrance number of prisoner, date of entrance and conviction, name, offence, sentence, magistrate, age, religion, place of birth and ship of arrival, previous and subsequent entrance number and final disposal.
