These volumes show for each prisoner the gaol annual number; name; condition; crime as stated on committal warrant; verdict; before whom tried; sentence; date of sentence, and from 5 March 1852, when discharged. From 1891, the volume includes Newcastle Quarter Sessions. Copies of lists sent to the Sheriff during 1852-65 of money taken from prisoners convicted at the Quarter Sessions and also of fines, are in the back of the 1840-74 volume (2/2118).
