When the decision was made to close the 'State Rail Archives' the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R325. Full description

This series consists of the correspondence records of the State Rail Authority of NSW dating from 1975 to 2000. The files were created for various branches and divisions within State Rail's head office at Transport House.

The files are registered in a six digit single numeric sequence commencing at 100,000. These records have been registered in four different indexing systems. From 1975 to 1988, a card index was used for file registration and indexing. From 1989 to 1993, the files were recorded in a mainframe computer system called UNIDAS. There was no file titling controls from 1975 to 1993; titles were based on the subject title of the correspondence. From 1993, the UNIDAS system was replaced by RecFind, with all UNIDAS records transferred to RecFind.
