Full description
The series contains reports created by, or for, the various business areas of NSW Public Works and its preceding agencies. These key records include architectural, archaeological, stoneworks, heritage, engineering, geotechnical reports and water services reports, as well as corporate publications describing the functions and services provided by Public Works (e.g. corporate plans, strategic plans).
Most of the reports relate to public monuments, buildings and structures. The series includes design and concept reports, conservation and preservation management plans and hydrology reports. There are also manuals (e.g. dam operations) and procurement and contract management guidelines.
The series was created for reference and research purposes and as a record of the work and functions of Public Works. It was managed by the corporate library and accessed by departmental employees and the public. Restricted reports were typically not made available without authorisation from the business.
The reports were held in the department's library up until 2016. In the following year a digitisation program was undertaken to add to the current reports that were increasingly being born digitally. The reports were digitised as PDF/A and were registered in the Department of Finance, Services and Innovation's records management system.
Following digitisation the series was arranged by file number. It had previously been arranged in the library by Dewey Decimal Classification number.
