Railway Books and Plans have been produced since 1849 to plot existing or prospective railway corridors and the placement of associated railway infrastructure on Crown Land or privately owned land portions throughout New South Wales, to ensure the adequate provision of material necessary for the construction and upkeep of corridors and infrastructure.
The arrangement of Railway Books and Plans varies across the series. Where some plans utilise the “large number-small number” standard established by the Crown Plan series, others invert this convention and are numbered using a “small prefix-large number” arrangement.
