Full description

Records consist of standard topographic hard copy maps with notations of the intended surveys and completed surveys allocated recorded plan numbers and the extent of the survey. A paper index sheet was glued to the map to form the key. The index maps were kept in alphabetical map name order. The topographic map numbers were used as the individual record identifiers. This has become the record number for the maps. The maps were used as a spatial index of the Recorded Plans in a given geographical area. By using the index it could be seen what plans were intended and completed then to refer to the Record Plan number to view the Recorded Plan and access the data for control survey marks. The Visual Index ceased to be used once details were transferred to the Survey Control Information Management System (SCIMS)database.

The series is arranged alphabetically by map name and then by topographic map number.
