Full description

These files were created in connection with workers compensation cases under the jurisdiction of the Workers Compensation Commission [I] and the Compensation Court. The papers include correspondence, records of orders, medical examination reports, transcripts, awards and certificates.

Sample files have been transferred from the years 1926, 1943, 1985, and 1988. The initial transfer comprised a number of cases commenced after the introduction of the workers compensation scheme in 1926. Subsequently, batches of cases were transferred after the following changes to the scheme and its administration:
-Introduction of Uninsured Liability & Indemnity Scheme (from 1 January 1943)
-Separation of judicial and administrative functions and appointment of Commissioners to hear cases less than $40,000 (from 1 January 1985)
-Commissioners being given jurisdiction to hear cases at first instance (from 1 January 1988)

Case numbers were assigned annually, beginning with 0001/1926.
