This series is a photograph album of Prince Alfred Hospital and was presented to Lady Carrington on her visit to the Hospital on 12 March 1886.
The Sydney Morning Herald describes the visit of Lord Carrington and Lady Carrington to the Prince Alfred Hospital on Saturday 12 March 1886 in some detail. In particular the article describes the presentation of the photograph album to Lady Carrington:
'On arriving at the library the visitors were provided with tea by the matron, and Mr Knox, chairman of the house committee, took the opportunity of presenting to Lady Carrington a handsomely bound album containing some 40 photographic views of the interior and exterior of the hospital, the nursing staff, and other interesting matters connected with the institution. The volume was bound in dark morocco, ornamented on the cover by the coronet of Lord Carrington, the University arms and the words "Presented to Lady Carrington, March 12 1886" the whole book having been prepared under the direct superintendence of Professor Anderson Stuart. Lady Carrington, in accepting the gift expressed the great interest she had taken in all she had seen. His Excellency also expressed much satisfaction with every thing he had seen…' (1)
The dimensions of the album are 300mm x 480mm x 55mm and features tooled leather binding, gilt-edged pages and cloth-hinged leaves consisting of mount-framed photographs.
There are 28 photographs of the interior and exterior of the Prince Alfred Hospital along with photographs of the nursing staff, and wards.
The photographs contain the stamp "C Bayliss Sydney" and have a descriptive label at the bottom of each image.

Charles Bayliss had a photographic studio located at 348 George Street, Sydney from 1884 to 1891. (2)
