Full description

This series contains the (general) Inwards Correspondence Registers of the Shire and Municipality of Ku-ring-gai.

Correspondence, relating to the full range of activities administered by Council, is entered chronologically in the registers under dates of letter and receipt, author and subject. Entries are allocated a progress number, from 1 each year. Only the first three volumes, 1916 to 1918, include an alphabetical subject index and an 'Attached to' column with references to single numbered files or building applications.

Council, from October 1938, routinely approved the destruction of, initially, all correspondence files from 1915 to 1924 and thence 'routine and unimportant' files up to December 1971, as well as accounting and transactional records up to December 1980.
