Full description

The files deal with the determination and administration of public holidays which became the responsibility of Industrial Relations in 1992 (re employment on public holiday, awards). They include local event days (race meetings, show days, festivals, centenary celebrations etc.); correspondence with councils, commercial organisations (re calendars etc.); proposed legislation and Ministerials. The files were transferred to DIR when the responsibilities for public holidays was transferred and given a new file cover when needed.

The files would have been originally created with the Chief Secretary (1946-75). The function was then transferred to the Department of Services (1976-91) and the Department of Local Government (1984-1992).
