Action was the official journal of the National Emergency Services (NES). The journal was a non-commercial publication published between 1942 and 1944. The intent of the journal was to provide general information regarding NES services and matters.
The contents of the journals begin with a message from the State Minister, followed by articles relating to individuals of the National Emergency Services, news of the War, advice to civilians and advertisements. The first journal published stated that the intention was for the journal to be published monthly however as the War progressed and paper rationing became more stringent the number of issues and the distribution became sporadic. In the July 1942 issue of Action on page 8 it is stated, in response to an enquiry about the cost of the journal, that the editorial, photographs and artist illustrations are done by volunteers and that the costs of newsprint and printing are met by advertisers.
Action was printed by Land Newspaper Ltd, Sydney.
