This series consists of Official History Cards (OHC) of employees from the Electricity Commission of NSW.
When the Electricity Commission of NSW was formed in 1950, many employees were transferred from the Sydney County Council, the Department of Railways, the Public Works Department, Southern Electricity Supply and the Electric Light and Power Supply Corporation, also known as the Balmain Electric Light Company, in addition to some smaller electricity undertakings throughout NSW. The cards in this series include those for employees who were transferred from these organisations as well as those for workers who directly commenced work with the Electricity Commission.
The Official History Card, which was based on an earlier system developed by the Sydney County Council in the 1940s, were used to record the working histories of employees at the Electricity Commission from its inception in 1950 to 1979. A card records dates, role titles, departments and locations. In some instances, the cards record employee details prior to 1950 and post 1979.
From 1979, the Employee Official History Cards were replaced by other systems.
The cards are arranged in alphabetical order by employee surname.
