To document activities of the Benevolent Society from their first public meeting called to establish the Society in Wollongong. The society was formed from the merging of two groups; the Church of England Ladies Visiting and the Benevolent Society to form The Wollongong Benevolent Society whose purpose was to assist the poor and needy of the district.
Lady Collectors of the Society collected subscriptions from members which were then paid to the Treasurer at these monthly meetings. Details of collected subscriptions were documented in the minutes as well as the outcome of the vote for the distribution of the collected funds to the needy.
The Annual Meeting of the Society was also documented in this minute book.
This minute book also documents the meetings of the Outdoor Relief Department Committee of the Albert Memorial Hospital from 1869 onwards. This committee held its first meeting on 3 February 1869 replacing the Wollongong Benevolent Society Committee meetings with the last meeting being held on 6 January 1869.
