Full description
This series comprises plans of land which were deposited with the Registrar General for the purposes of establishing title, defining boundaries and recording survey particulars.
With the introduction of the Real Property Act (Act No. 19a, 1862) on 1 January 1863, Deposited Plans were required to be filed by registered (licensed) surveyors with the Registrar General when subdividing land subject to the Real Property Act or when lodging a Primary Application (an application to convert land title from Old System to Torrens Title).
The Deposited Plan series comprises Real Property (Torrens Title) land, Old System Land (including Old System conversions and unconverted land) and Crown Land where certificates of title are issued. The earliest plans created by the agency begin in 1863 but private plans transferred to the Registrar General date from 1847.
The main types of plans included in the Deposited Plans are:
*Australian Agricultural Company Survey - Private Survey Plans (created in 1847)
*Crown Authority Plans
*Crown Plans, 1983-
*Deposited Plans, 1863-
*Examination Survey Plans, 1902-
*Housing Commission Plans, 1948-1961
*Miscellaneous Plans of Subdivision (Old System - MPS(OS)), 1920-1965
*Miscellaneous Plans of Subdivision (Real Property - MPS(RP)), 1920-1965
*Pipeline Plans, 1967-
*Primary Application Plans, 1863-
*Registered Plans, 1920-1961
*Road plans (public) - see MPS(OS) and MPS(RP).
The Deposited Plans series is comprised of a number of runs of plans (referred to as 'series' by the agency). In 1961, the majority of plan runs were renumbered (with the exception of the original deposited plans and strata plans which retained their original numbers) and classified as 'filed plans'. This change provided a unique number for all filed plans in a set running from DP1 to DP999,000. Many runs of plans were renumbered by the addition of a constant numerical factor to the original number (e.g. Primary Application Plans added 50,000 to the number - PA plans 1 to 9194 became DP50001 to DP59194).
The following 'series' of DP numbers indicate some of the main runs which have been used, some to renumber older series:
*DP1 to DP32399 - original deposited plans of land which was neither attached to a dealing or deed nor lodged for the purposes of a strata scheme
*DP35001 to DP36874 - Housing Commission Plans
*DP37239 to DP39454 - Registered Plans
*DP40000 - General charting purposes
*DP50001 to DP59194 - Primary Application Plans
*DP150001 to DP165018 - Old System (OS) Plans
*DP200001 to DP254000 - General charting purposes (for plans comprising five or more lots)
*DP255001 to DP256000
*DP258001 to DP259955
*DP259958 onwards
*DP300001 to DP421742 - Miscellaneous Plans of Subdivision (MSP) Real Property (RP)
*DP400000 onwards - Examination surveys and re-catalogued plans with dealings
*DP500001 onwards - General charting purposes (for plans comprising fewer than five lots)
*DP700000 to DP749999 - introduction of ALTS (computer based system)
*DP750000 to DP758000 - administrative numbers that do not have a physical plan but allow a parcel of land to be recorded in the agency databases
*DP771000 to DP778800
*DP785001 to DP769720
*DP800000 to DP899999
*DP900000 onwards - Examination surveys and re-catalogued plans
*DP950001 to DP96067 - Australian Agricultural Company Estate Plans
*DP1000000 onwards - introduction of the Integrated Titling System (ITS) (which superseded the Automated Land Titling System (ALTS)).
The information contained on Deposited Plans includes County, Parish, Local Government Authority, Locality and a signed declaration by the registered surveyor responsible for the plan. Departmental Deposited Plans prepared for departmental convenience do not have a signed statement by a registered surveyor.
In September 2002, the manual updating of all the department's paper maps was discontinued. All notations, status and subdivisional changes are made in the Integrated Titling System (ITS) and the Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB).
The layout, specifications and requirements of plans have changed over time to include different physical formats and more detailed information. Prior to January 1961 there was no requirement to have a Registered Date for deposited plans. Dates on these plans include those for: the surveyor's declaration; Council approval; lodgement with the department; or noted in the Plan Lodgement Books.(1) From 1961, the Registered Date is recorded as the date when the plan was accepted by the department. This is usually the date recorded as the start date and end date on the consignment list.
