Full description
The Classification Committee classifies all prisoners receiving a sentence with a twelve or more months non-parole period when they first enter the system. It also re-classifies prisoners and reviews classifications following changes in detention policy. The files of the Committee contain any information which may affect the decisions it makes. Because of this the files for individual prisoners may vary in the information they contain. The files may include: reports from the Police giving personal details of the prisoner's background and any former convictions; details of the prisoner's behaviour during any former detentions; psychological and medical reports; statements and applications by the prisoner (including courses the prisoner may wish to undertake while under detention); details of the offence committed; and other Committee reports.
