Series comprised of plans not required to be deposited under legislation but which have been acquired by the Land Titles Office and its preceding and successor agencies for charting, reference or collection purposes.

Included within this series are plan collections donated by surveyors upon their retirement (Wells, Armstrong and Norton). Donor information is noted in the consignment list. Also included are Old System plans which were originally annexed to deeds registered with the Registrar-General's Office and other Old System plans which were donated. The majority of these are sales lithographs created by auctioneers to increase public interest in the sale of the land.

The plans were used as a charting medium and their value is increased by the grant, title and plan information added to them over the years.

Prior to 1 July 1929 there was no legislative provision for public recording of plans comprising land under common law (Old System) title other than as a plan annexed to a registered deed. Plans of subdivision of Old System land were not required to be lodged as Deposited Plans until 1961. However many Old System plans, as well as sales lithographs and donated surveyor's plans were acquired by the Land Titles Office and its preceding and successor offices for (a) charting and reference purposes; and (b) to create a significant historical collection.

The plans are arranged alphabetically by district name or suburb, estate name.
