This series is comprised of black and white photographs of individuals created for investigative purposes. The photographs measure 830 mm x 120 mm and 100 mm x 104 mm and contained within cardboard envelopes. Each envelope may contain a number of different photographs and multiple copies of each photograph. Some envelopes also contain negatives, colour photographs and slides.

The photographs have originated from a number of sources including:

  • Newspapers and other publications
  • Police offender photographs “mug shots”
  • Surveillance photographs
  • Photographs from other agencies such as passport photographs and offender photographs

The following information is recorded on the reverse side of each photograph:

  • six digit number
  • name of person
  • year the photograph was taken
  • annotations such as date of birth and place and date of residence

The following information is recorded on the front of each envelope:

  • six digit number
  • dossier number
  • name of person
  • alias name
  • month and year the photograph was taken.
