This series consists of a single volume, in which are recorded the names of, and results achieved by, successful candidates in various external examinations – the Junior and Senior Matriculation Examinations of the University of Sydney, Training School Scholarship Examinations, Public Service Examinations (New South Wales and Federal), Intermediate Certificate (from 1912) and Leaving Certificate (from 1913). The volume is arranged chronologically. Names and results are presented in tabular format whenever more than three or four candidates are involved. After 1914 more than half of the volume remains blank, which suggests that the series never extended beyond this point.

The Results Book is a single signature tabbed index volume (in which the index tabs are disregarded), with a red stamped leather cover. The spine of the volume is stressed but still holding. The volume bears no title, and might conceivably have originally been intended for some other purpose: the page bearing the “A” index tab has been headed “Adamstown Class II,” beneath which, in what appears to be the same hand, the words “Newcastle District” have been written twice, with the words “High School” subsequently added in pencil.
