Full description

These are correspondence files of the Blue Mountains City Council. This series contains alphabetical subject files which have a numerical code. The numerical codes (1, 2, 3, 4 etc.) are based on a similar code system used by Blue Mountains Shire Council prior to amalgamation in 1947. From 1947 to 1954 the correspondence used the same codes. From 1955 the codes become more complex, a subfile number being added (e.g. 1/1, 1/2, 1/3 etc.) indicating subheadings such as suburb names. From 1965 the code numbers are further divided with four sub numbers indicating subheadings and the date the file was started. Correspondence files relating to utilities were given file numbers starting at 1000, 2000, 3000, etc.
