This series consists of correspondence relating to the review of several Acts, including the Adoption of Children Act, 1965 (Act No. 23, 1965) and Adoption Information Acts from 1990 to 2003.
The Law Reform Commission was inaugurated on 1 January 1966 (1) simultaneously with most provisions of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1965 (Act No. 32, 1965) and formally constituted by the Law Reform Commission Act, 1967 (Act No. 39, 1967). The Commission’s role was to review, simplify or modernise laws in response to community consultation.
These records include memorandums, letters, submissions, discussion papers and research, reviews of privacy issues for the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and information from the Department of Community Services (DOCS).
The correspondence is arranged in chronological order in bound folders organised by type of documentation.
