Full description
This series consists of correspondence relating to the laws which regulate how people live on neighbouring land.
The Law Reform Commission was inaugurated on 1 January 1966 (1) simultaneously with most provisions of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1965 (Act No. 32, 1965) and formally constituted by the Law Reform Commission Act, 1967 (Act No. 39, 1967). The Commission’s role was to review, simplify or modernise laws in response to community consultation.
On 23 December 1987 the Attorney General requested that the Law Reform Commission inquire into and report on laws which regulate how people live on and maintain neighbouring land. The Commission sought submissions from the general public and special interest groups. (2)
The records include memorandums, letters, printouts of emails from individuals and interested groups on subjects such as the removal of trees, dividing fences and disputes about driveways. Questionnaires about a range of related issues are also included.
The correspondence is arranged in chronological order in bound folders organised by type of documentation.
