Full description

This series consists of minutes from the Factory Welfare Board from 1942-1956 and the Factory and Industrial Welfare Board from 1956-1981. The Board was formed as an advisory body to Department of Labour and Industry and Social Welfare. It was initially concerned with improving health and safety in the factory environment; however from 1956 the Board expanded its jurisdiction to the health and safety of employees in any industry. The minutes record the Boards responses and recommendations regarding work place incidents, accidents and complaints that have been reported to the Board.

In addition to the minutes, the series includes a number of subject files. The subject files contain records relating to specific health and safety investigations undertaken by the Board and records relating to research into and the promotion of health and safety standards in the work place.
