Full description

Annual returns of business were a record of statistics for each court, compiled by the Clerk of Petty Sessions at the end of the each year and forwarded to the Under Secretary of Justice before the 31st of January of the next year. (1)

These forms recorded statistics of transactions involving the following:
Petty Sessions Court, Revision Court, Children’s Court, Industrial Magistrate’s Court, Small Debts Court, Bankruptcy Cases, Licensing Court, Quarter Sessions, District Court, Moratorium Act, Reduction of Rents Act, Interest Reduction Act, Births, Deaths, and Marriages, Pension and Endowment Claims, Mining Business, Electoral Business, Public Trustee’s Agent, District Agency for Probate, and Land and Income Tax Assessment. The form also records the Public Revenue and Public Moneys Collected for the year and what positions were held by the Clerk at that Court.
