A temporary council for the Shire of Dumaresq was appointed in 1906 under s.7 (a) of the Local Government (Shires) Act 1905 (Act No. 33, 1905) and held its first meeting on 16 June 1906 at the Court House in Armidale. This council made all the necessary arrangements and preparations for the election of the first Dumaresq Shire Council, which first met on 8 December 1906.

This series contains minutes of meetings of the Dumaresq Shire Council as a Committee of the Whole. The minutes were created only occasionally, and recorded chronologically. These meetings occurred within a general meeting of Council and were short discussions on single matters, for example, the appointment of auditors and staff, increases in staff pay and allowances, engineer’s reports, building of new offices, items of expenditure.
