Full description

This series consists of offence files created by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) between 1969 and 2001. Each file relates to a particular offence investigated and/or prosecuted by the National Parks and Wildlife Service under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 (Act No.80, 1974) and in relation to other Acts where the National Parks and Wildlife Service investigated and/or prosecuted offences.

The files in this series relate to the prosecution of cases that are of major public interest or controversy, which were precedent setting or which resulted in significant changes to National Parks and Wildlife Service policies. Some examples of the cases included in the series are those relating to illegal fauna trading, dealing and smuggling, fauna licencing cases, cases involving damages to Aboriginal sites, encroachments of mining activities onto National Parks land and illegal clearing of National Parks land.

The files contain statements, forms and documentation relating to the offence being investigated and any other documents produced during the investigation process. Within each consignment the files are arranged in single number order. The files feature the prefix 'O' or '1992/O'. A significant quantity of files were top numbered in 1992 with the year prefix '1992/'.
