Full description
This series is a bound book which was created as a permanent memorial to all the Armidale Teachers' College men who died in World War Two.
The Book of Remembrance was unveiled at a ceremony on Good Friday, 19 April 1946. The book was originally housed in a special case donated by Mr and Mrs W.C.V. Havilah, the first College couple to marry. Each day the College librarian would turn a page. A voluntary committee of Mr Gray and Mr McCausland (both ex-servicemen) and Mr Morrow worked on the book. The book comprises 37 pages of brown paper bound in brown vinyl. Each page contains a photo and record. The photo shows each man in military uniform. The record gave the following information: name, date of birth, home address, primary school, high school, appointment at time of enlistment, date entering the forces, college record and service record (including date of death). In some cases photos or details are missing. The pages are arranged alphabetically.
It is the original of the copy that still exists within the college as a war memorial.
