Full description
Each teacher maintained a programme and lessons register for each class. The programme register covered an academic year. There is an introductory page setting out the name of the school, the grade, the dates of the terms, the average age of the pupils, the name of the teacher and the date of assignment to the class. The volumes are sub-divided into terms. Within each term there is a four-page spread for English programmes to be entered, three pages each for mathematics and social studies, and single pages for other subjects. These pages are sub-divided into sections which the teacher completed, indicating briefly what had been achieved in each week of term, e.g. the English spread is divided into Literature, Language and Expression, each of which is further sub-divided into such topic areas as Reading, Poetry and Prose, Handwriting or Oral and Written Expression. The weeks of the term are indicated in the extreme left-hand column of each double-page opening, and the work to be done in each subject during each week is intended to be entered under the appropriate subject and topic heading. The volumes of this series now held are atypical for such registers, in that they have been adapted to serve for all classes from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade within the confines of the same volume. This has sometimes been achieved by inserting extra pages in typescript, and in one instance by assembling a new “book” out of blank pages removed from several other books and stapled together in a cardboard “binding.”
