The inside cover of the volume also has a list of requirements that teachers needed to follow in order to correctly carry out Half-Yearly examinations. These include the following stipulations; all classes must have Half-Yearly examinations and these exams must be finished by June and November respectively; the nature of the test, and if possible, the questions, should be recorded; pupils names should be arranged alphabetically; pupils absent from an examination should be tested as soon as practically possible; the record should be signed by both the examiner and the class teacher. This directive also stresses the importance of the pupil’s written work above all else. Significantly, the record of results is described to be of great importance to both the teacher and inspector alike.
