The minutes document the variety of activities for which the Council was responsible including financial management, and preparation for Council elections. This minute book is not arranged in strictly chronological order, and contains outwards correspondence. The minutes have also been damaged at some stage, and have been given a protective covering.Special Meetings were called to record a specific issue. Reports were generally also tabled at these Meetings relating to the subject.These minute books were initially created under s.49 of the Local Government (Shires) Act 1905 (Act No. 33,1905). Full description

This series contains minutes of the general and special meetings of the Colo Provisional Shire Council. The Minutes were created at least monthly and recorded chronologically.

The Colo Provisional Council was appointed in 1906, under s.7 (a) of the Local Government (Shires) Act 1905. This section allowed for the appointment of Temporary Councillors who were required to organise and supervise the preparation of electoral rolls and to make all the necessary arrangements for the election of the first council.
