The role of the Senior Management Group was to provide a forum for Divisional Heads (senior administrative, operational and technical executives) for the purpose of integrating management action and policy development within the agency. The initial members were the Assistant Secretary (Finance and Budget), Deputy Chief Officer (Services), Deputy Secretary and Manager Technical Development of the Board of Fire Commissioners.

This series contains minutes, agendas and papers presented to the meetings. These related to the Committee's role of establishing and maintaining a policy framework within which day to day management could be carried out, ensuring progress towards defined goals, and measuring performance against policy. The Group approved expenditure for projects which included renovation stations and considering tenders. Staff development, purchasing equipment, voluntary fire-fighters and improvement of technology were recurrent issues on the agenda of the group.
