Full description
The first annual reports in this series are those of the New South Wales Ambulance Transport Service, Western Suburbs District. The 1937 report is that of the Railway Ambulance Corps and from 1958 the reports are those of the NSW Government Railways First Aid Corps. The relationship between the Railways Ambulance Corps and the Western District ambulance is unclear. The reports document the strength of the Corps, its activities and achievements. Early Reports include the names of office-bearers, recognition of financial assistance from various groups and organisations, the appointment of staff, and the number of cases dealt with by the Corps. Later Reports give results and awards of various competitions conducted by the Corps, equipment type and numbers, and the location of first aid classes and names of instructors.
The Programme for the 1936 Annual Meeting of the Ambulance Corps takes the place of the 1936 annual report reflecting the order of the records in this series when transferred to archives.
Custody History
From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.
This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R114 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
