This series consists of documents which ‘miscellaneous bodies’ corporate were required to lodge with the Registrar General under the Companies Acts. The records also include a microfilm format of the documents.
The bodies were also known as 'section 24 companies' and included limited companies that were formed for the purpose of providing recreation or amusement or promoting commerce, industry, art, science, religion, charity, pension or superannuation schemes, or any other object useful to the community. (1) These bodies used profits to promote their objectives and did not pay dividends to members. With Ministerial permission these companies were registered as limited liability companies without the word “Limited’ added to their names. The documents retained in these files relate to the constitution and performance of the companies and include Preamble and Constitution Books, Minutes concerning change of function, legislation and proclamations relevant to their constitution and functions. The following are examples of the companies whose records form part of this series: social service agencies, private school councils, retirement villages, medical research organizations, ex-servicemen’s associations, gas companies; philanthropic associations.
