Competency based assessment is a system for assessing a person's knowledge and skills. Assessment is based on the actual skills and knowledge a person can demonstrate in the workplace or in other relevant contexts (such as the training environment). The system also enables comparison of qualifications against recognised competency standards.Competency based assessment acknowledges that learning can be derived from a variety of sources including prior learning, training courses and skills acquired on the job. In the New South Wales Fire Brigades competency based assessment was primarily used to test skills acquired during training programs.-
This instruction manual was designed to assist Fires Brigades personnel when Competency Based Training and Assessment forms. This booklet is divided into three sections: Recruit Program procedures, Certificate III Program procedures and Professional Development and Promotional Programs procedures.
The Recruit Program consists of the following: Recognition of Prior Learning / Recognition of Current Competencies procedures; challenge test process; assessment procedures and guidelines.
The Certificate III Program is divided into the following sections: Recognition of Prior Learning / Recognition of Current Competencies procedures; Assessment procedures and Data Recording and Promotion Procedures.
The Professional Development and Promotional Programs is made up of the following areas: Recognition of Prior Learning / Recognition of Current Competencies procedures; Assessment procedures and guidelines; and Data Recording and Promotion Procedures.
This series also has examples of Recognition of Prior Learning / Recognition of Current Competencies Application and Appeals forms; Assessment Application and Pre-Assessment Details forms; Assessment Appeals forms; Promotion forms; New South Wales Fire Brigades Training Record for Recognition of Prior Learning forms; and Assessment Consolidated Result forms.
