The first edition of the Australian Incident Reporting System (AIRS) Reference Manual was issued in February 1998 and varied in format from its predecessor: The Australian Assembly of Fire Authorities Incident Reporting System Reference and Instruction Manual. The purpose of the manual is to set standards for completing electronic forms, and to give information about the tasks which are captured by the system. The manual provides step-by-step guidance in using the AIRS system with screen shots and standards for data entry including full description of codes which are used throughout the system to achieve uniform descriptions.
This volume is divided into sections 1-19 which deal with areas such as call details; description of incident; particulars of attendance; casualties, rescue and evacuation; ignition; grass, bush and forest fires; and structure fires.
The AIRS manual is updated annually.
