The series mainly concerns the system of licensing Farm Producers established by the Farm Produce Acts of 1926 and 1983 as amended, the regulations and working of the system, information provided for licensees, the difficulties caused by unlicensed sellers and pressure for changes to deal with these difficulties including a call for a royal commission.

The series consists of papers relating to administrative matters, and includes a copy of the Farm Produce Regulation 1983 with documents relating to subsequent amendments, correspondence, policy, and advisings regarding indemnities, copies of circulars issued to licensees, annual lists of Farm Produce sellers, papers relating to the Farm Produce Industry inquiry, correspondence and submissions regarding legislation review, papers relating to the operation of Flemington Markets, price fixing procedures, letters and submissions from the public, and copies of media reports.
