Full description

This series contains provenance-based finding aids in relation to State archives series. The guides provide a history of the NSW Government agency which created or maintained the series, describe the record series including their date range, access conditions and the shelf locations. The material is arranged numerically by edition number, and chronologically by publication date within that arrangement.

Some guides were updated periodically and several editions exist. Essentially, four types of published guides have been produced as finding aids to State archives series:

1 Provenance-based guides (often designated preliminary inventories);

2 The published major finding aid (The Concise Guide, 1st edition (year) and supplements;

3 Subject guides, many of which range across provenance;

4 Indexes to series.
