Full description
The purpose of these registers is to record statistics of the Stephen's Creek dam. These include the quantity of rainfall and the capacity and operation of the dam. Both volumes contain rainfall observations which record daily precipitation The daily totals are shown in inches and fractions of an inch and are added to indicate monthly totals and the number of days on which rain fell. Frequently the figure ‘0’ is recorded. This presumably meant that rain fell in the district but in negligible quantity.
The volumes also record the levels and contents of the reservoir at Stephens Creek. This daily record shows the water level in feet and inches and approximately monthly the calculated contents is also given.
The first volume in this series contains other statistical tables including daily pumping records for No 1 and No 2 Engine. This table shows the number of hours for which water was pumped, the register of the counter, length of the stroke and gallons pumped. A monthly record of the pumping hours for each engine is kept. This table was maintained from 13 March, 1893 until 31 December, 1896.
A further table is the level and contents of the service reservoirs covering the period 1 November, 1892 to 6 January, 1900.
There is a monthly table of meter readings presumably these are the meters of clients. This table covers the period October, 1892 until June 1897.
Two additional tables appear to be for reference purposes to assist staff in making the necessary calculations. These show a) the volume of the reservoir for the corresponding depth measurement with various indicators and calculations inserted into a remarks column. This table covers depths from 0’.0’ until 33’, and b) the contents of the service reservoir for each inch in depth.
The cover title of Volume 1 is 'Record Book' and that of Volume 2 is 'Rainfall and Reservoir Records'
