These are papers relating to the arrangement whereby Henry Lawson was paid a retaining fee and provided with a cottage at Yanco by the Commission, in return for contributing articles to magazines with a view to advertising the possibilities of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. The arrangement sprang largely from charitable motives to assist Lawson who was in very poor circumstances at the time.

Custody History
The file was an archival estray which was acquired by the Mitchell Library from Mr G.J. Evatt in November 1931. The Mitchell Library transferred it to State Records in September 1980.
