The returns show, in regard to each place of sale, the following particulars: county, parish or town; number of portion; area; the upset price and that realised; total amount realised; value of improvements; and the name of the purchaser, his place of residence and occupation.From 1858 to 1866 the administration of auction sales of Crown lands was vested with the Surveyor General, and from 1867 with the Department of Lands; hence records relating to auction sales can also be found among the records of these two agencies.
