One of the main duties of the Collector of Internal Revenue (this office was instituted April 1827) was to collect all moneys received from the sale or rental of land and pay such moneys to the Colonial Secretary.Some of the letters deal with instructions or requests from the Governor; but most are notifications of grants and purchases of land, supplying name of grantee or purchaser, number of acres, situation of land, and conditions (including amount of rent, etc.).
