Full description

This volume gives the following information in respect of each letter registered: annual number of the letter (within each literal group); the date on which the letter was written; the name of the person writing the letter; the date of answer to the letter; the number of the reply (in Copies of letters sent to assistant surveyors of roads and bridges); reference to previous papers (if any); and, the subject matter of the registered letter.

When control of roads was transferred to the Royal Engineers Corps in January 1837 the use of this register was discontinued. It was used again to register letters from H.R. Labatt, Assistant Surveyor of Turnpike Roads, 1845-50, when some control over roads was again exercised by the Surveyor General.
