This register from the Sydney Hotel was presumably used as evidence in a court case. However, no entry in the register is designated as evidence, and no entry indicates an irregularity in the transactions carried out by the hotel. The volume is arranged chronologically and the information supplied includes description of the rooms (ie. double bed, single bed, etc.), the number of the room, the terms on which the room is taken (ie. room only, bed and breakfast etc.), the name(s) of the person(s) registering and the receipt number of the amount rendered. Usually, the number of rooms occupied is totalled at the end of each day and notes respecting early telephone calls, registered mail and lost property have been made.
