Full description
The returns usually record name of prisoner, offence, date of trial, verdict, sentence, and if remitted and why. There is a column for the name of the committing magistrate but it is rarely filled in. The returns are frequently duplicated, one copy probably having been sent to the Colonial Secretary and the other retained in the Supreme Court. The loose returns are kept together for convenience of searching.
