These volumes are copies of letters sent by the Sheriff and Under Sheriff to government officers and private persons. Those addressed in the series include: Colonial Secretary; Attorney General; Principal Superintendant of Police, later Inspector General of Police; local police; Principal Gaoler; gaolers of minor gaols; Colonial Architect; Secretary for Finance and Trade; Undersecretaries of departments (eg.
