Full description

These are registration files of defunct Friendly Societies. They contain registered documents as required by the Friendly Societies Act 1873 (37 Vic. No.4), including societies' rules, regulations and amendments; correspondence relevant to the regulation of the statutes (e.g. dissolution of a branch or society and the discharge of monetary liability; executive authority to register a branch; and statutory annual returns).

The files are arranged chronologically by date of registration of the society or branch. Details recorded on the file cover are registration number, ledger folio number, name of branch and number, name of parent society, usually location, and date of registration with the Registrar of Friendly Societies.
