Full description

This series consists of the original competition drawings submitted by Mr Jørn Utzon as part of the 'International Competition for a National Opera House at Bennelong Point'. It is these drawings which assessors of the Opera House Committee awarded Mr Jørn Utzon first prize of 5,000 pounds on 29 January 1957. As a result Mr Utzon was commissioned by the Government of New South Wales to do final drawings for the Opera House, and to supervise its construction. The 12 competition drawings submitted by Mr Utzon show site plans; floor plans; north south east and west elevations and sectional plans of the proposed building. Also included are acoustic sections of the large and small halls.
